Little Books For Home

Little Books For Home

Providing the little Ziggy books for home is a key part of the early years approach. We hope that parents/carers will join in their children’s learning journey with Ziggy, and enjoy sharing the stories and activities at home. It’s never too early for a child to get into good road safety habits that will last them a lifetime, so it’s important for adults to set good examples in real life situations.

There are six books in all, which will take a child from age 3 to primary 1. In the two pre-school years, children will get the first five books, followed by the final book when they go to primary 1. In pre-school, the children will be given the books to take home at the most appropriate time, for example after the story has been read in class. The primary 1 book, 'Ziggy and Maggie Start School', is part of the Scottish Book Trust's Bookbug Primary 1 Family Pack.

At the end of August and February, Education Scotland's Distribution Centre will send out an order form to the pre-school education sector. From the start of the new school year 2013/14, the primary 1 book ‘Ziggy and Maggie Start School’ will be part of the Scottish Book Trust’s new Bookbug Primary 1 Family Pack.

In August, nursery staff will be able to order the following little books for home:

  • Ante-pre-school – Ziggy and the Lollipop
  • Ante-pre-school – Ziggy Visits Granny
  • Pre-school – Ziggy’s Halloween Wish

In February, nursery staff will be able to order the following little books for home:

The Primary 1 packs are distributed to the local authorities towards the end of September. Schools will be encouraged to hand out the packs during Book Week Scotland (Mon 24 - Sun 30 Nov 2014), but some may hand them out earlier.

An exciting collaboration

Road Safety Scotland is proud to partner with The Scottish Book Trust to reach all babies and their parents/carers in Scotland through the inclusion of the specially developed buggy book, 'Out and About', in the Bookbug Baby Bag.

This partnership also extends to the inclusion of the primary 1 book 'Ziggy and Maggie Start School' in the Bookbug Primary 1 Family Pack, which is distributed to all primary schools after the start of the new school year.
